I suppose this place has taught me that t-shirts can be sophisticated with effort.
[At least he's still wearing pants. There's hope for him yet tonight. He also remains decent in how much he pours - as much as he would love to lose himself in wine at the moment, this is a tasting and he doesn't want to pour a giant glass of wine that Dell might hate.]
A few bottles. I made a small first batch as a test.
[He picks up his glass, but doesn't drink from it yet.]
I've seen 'em with suit jackets, if that makes any sense to ya.
[Because... yeah. They're both still a decade behind 1984's casual, oversized suits, and even farther behind the 2019 version of the same look.]
Not a bad production so far.
[But first, he has to actually taste it. He takes the glass. Believe it or not, despite his rural, small town upbringing, Engineer knows how to do a proper wine test. He notes the color, swirls it, sniffs it, notes the color... and finally takes a sip. No point in aspirating or spitting it back, though - they're not in a vineyard.
For a moment, his expression stays neutral, taking the time to just let the taste settle in his mouth. Then, finally, his eyebrows raise.]
[It's a brave new world of fashion, and he's just now starting to embrace it. But also, buttons are too much effort today.
He waits for Engie to take his first sip before going in for his own first taste. Spy's certain it won't be god-awful, at any rate, but God knows he demands nothing but perfection in life. Still, he's pleasantly surprised that Engineer likes it. Certainly not bad for his first solo attempt at making wine.
Since it's palatable, he goes ahead and fills their glasses with a proper serving.]
Good. Alcohol tends to be temperamental. I'm glad it's palatable, at least.
[The compliment, even with the nickname attached, brings a genuine smile to Spy's face. He always figured Engie as hard to impress, so there's a special satisfaction in how he takes a bigger drink. He hums quietly at the suggestion to sell.]
I was, yes. If others are as much of a fan as you, I suppose I'll have to come up with a name.
Hoss, I've been to a whole lotta Texas vineyards. I got my predilections, but I can be as picky about grapes as the next wine snob. It's good.
[It's true. Engineer's hard to genuinely impress. Color him impressed anyway, especially with a compliment like that.
The merc leans back against the couch and holds the glass on his knee. He likes that smile on Spy's face, too, and winds up watched it for a lot longer than he realizes.]
Point bein', others are gonna like it. Got a name in mind yet?

But I can trust you to be a fair critic.

Good stuff. I'll be damned.
[That's a compliment. It's good.]

Engineer brings the glass down, and nods his thanks with a grin.]
Damn palatable. You're a vintner yet, Spook.
[Evident by the fact he takes much bigger pull after Spy fills his glass. He brings the glass down with a satisfied sigh.]
I ain't done a wine tasting since I had to schmooze a college dean in Waco. You thinkin' of sellin' this stuff?
